5 Sydney Venues To See New Bands Selected By Picture Perfect

Picture Perfect

A band of brothers, Gavin and Simon Bowles formed Picture Perfect with bassist Cameron Hill in 2005.

The band have released two full-length albums and scored supports with Calling All Cars and The Radiators.

Their new single, ‘Faceless Man’, is taken from their latest EP, ‘Well Alright!’.

Gavin has selected the group’s Top 5 Sydney venues to see new bands.

Brighton Up Bar

A small, intimate venue located above a little pub (Brighton Hotel) in the heart of Sydney’s CBD on Oxford St. Good location for all the city-slickers. Cosy place and always has live music and local bands playing.

The Roxbury Hotel

Located just outside the CBD in Glebe, The Roxbury Hotel has been supporting local bands for a while now. It’s a fairly small band room, but a cool set-up and lots of fun if you bring some punters! Not many big-name bands come through often (if at all), which is kind of cool – it’s a venue for the underdogs!

Hermann’s Bar

Hermann’s is a bar at Sydney Uni and has a lot of live music there. Not as big as Sydney Uni’s other bar/ venue, Manning Bar, obviously, but a good venue. They tend to have a lot of hard rock and metal bands there. We played there recently and had an awesome time. It’s a good room to play in – nothing beats a uni bar!

The Roller Den

A relatively new venue which opened earlier this year. Located in Sydney’s inner-west, just outside of Newtown (technically in Erskineville). It’s actually underneath another venue, The Corner Store, but the building and pub itself is called the Imperial Hotel (confusing, I know). Great venue with a cool set-up. It has railings to lean on around and above the stage to get a bit of a different view of whoever’s playing.

Spectrum

Spectrum is definitely a favourite – it’s always pumping with live music. It was home to the mini-festival Spin The Bottle for a while, and still has indie music/ artist nights called ‘Kittens’ (just about) every Saturday. We had a single launch there last year and our ‘Well Alright!’ EP launch there earlier this year as well; both gigs were a lot of fun! It’s a great room and Perry has to be the friendliest in-house sound guy in Sydney!
