Expressions of interest are now open for a groundbreaking new programme for New South Wales songwriters who are d/Deaf or disabled, aiming to provide a new collective space to collaborate and create music.

Songsmiths has a focus on self-determination, mentorship and creative access. Up to 12 people will be selected for the paid opportunity covering every stage in the creation, recording, and releasing of a song.

Stage one includes introductory online sessions, where participants will get to know each other and the programme facilitators. Then, for stage two, there will be up to six days of in-person writing and recording sessions in professional facilities, collaborating with other songwriters and expert facilitators and producers with and without disabilities.

Finally, participants will share results with industry professionals and receive valuable guidance on releasing and promoting music.

"We’re thrilled to be delivering this ambitious program designed and led by disabled musicians," Accessible Arts CEO Liz Martin says. "It focuses on self-determination, mentorship and creative access, and covers every stage in the creation, recording and releasing of a song with access front and centre. There is simply nothing else like it.”

The selected participants for Songsmiths will work with expert facilitators and producers including Bec Sandridge, Bart Denaro, Anna Laverty, Annaïs Paris, Irene Zhong and Fletcher Babb.

Applicants must identify as being d/Deaf or a person with a disability, over the age of 18 when applying, live in New South Wales, and have any level of previous experience with songwriting.
