Lorde has called out serial radio pest announcer, Kyle Sandilands, during an interview on KIIS FM promoting her upcoming Australian tour.
The New Zealand pop star and Taylor Swift have been seen regularly with each other recently, which prompted the shock jock to ask if she would be bringing her ‘new bestie’ Taylor Swift Down Under. "I see you guys’ pictures everywhere, are you guys together now? Not together as in lesbians, I’m not talking about 'Ellen together' I’m talking about, like you guys are friendly right?" Lorde was quick to fire back at Kyle, and retaliated, saying "What do you mean you’re not talking about 'Ellen together', is there something wrong with lesbians?"
Sandilands responded "Oh my god no, I would love that! Are you going to confirm now you’re in a lesbian relationship with her?" The Grammy winner told Kyle: "Don’t even try it." However Kyle, who has made a career out of poor taste, would not let the topic of Lorde’s close friendship with Swift lie.
He continued "I do love her though, we get along well with her. She’s very down to earth, right?" After a pause the Royals singer said "Uh… yeah" to which he responded "Don’t go too overboard explaining the friendship then." to which Lorde responded "I won’t, believe me."
The Kiwi songstress elaborated on her decision to turn down an offer to be Katy Perry’s support act on her upcoming Prismatic tour. "I think in the really early stages of any artist’s career it’s important for them to establish themselves for themselves,’ she said. "I’m just basically really stubborn and I want to be really independent and so I wanted to be headlining my own shows as opposed to supporting someone else."
Sandlilands' tasteless style is being rewarded in spades as he and co-presenter Jackie O have rocketed KIIS FM's Breafast slot out of the ratings doldrums (3.3 percent audience share) to equal first on 9.3 percent. Meanwhile, The 2DayFM breakfast show which the duo left last December has plummeted to 3.8 percent.
Lorde announced her 2014 Australian tour dates earlier today.
