The G20 is coming to town, and it's bringing more than a security brigade and a better global economy.
Most people aren't even sure what really happens at the G20, they just know that world leaders make global decisions on the economy. But ahead of Brisbane hosting the Leaders' Summit in November, the Queensland Government is hosting Cultural Celebrations throughout the city to entertain us and our guests.
With the international spotlight shining on Queensland, the G20 Cultural Celebrations will be held in Brisbane and Cairns and offer diverse programs over a three week period. There will be parades, city-wide lighting displays, music programs, dance programs, artist exhibitions, kids' activities and loads more.
'Colour Me Brisbane' will be one of the leading events, transforming the city into the ultimate after dark destinations. Bathing Brisbane's favourite downtown precincts in images of contemporary art, the citywide interactive light and projection installations will be accompanied by sound shows created by some of Australia's leading artists.
The free events will kick-off in Cairns with a vibrant outdoor concert on September 16, while Brisbane will hold multiple events from October 24 through to November 16. With a full program to be released soon, there will be local talent throughout the city with a wide range of community events on offer.
