Bess Atwell Australia 2025 Tour

Bess Atwell
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Part of the UK's contemporary folk scene, Brighton-based singer-songwriter Bess Atwell is headed to Australia for the very first time.

Already added to the WOMADelaide and Port Fairy Folk Festival respective line-ups, the 'Nobody', 'Co-op' and 'Time Comes In Roses' artist will headline intimate concerts in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in March.

"🇦🇺 Australia 🇦🇺 I'm making my way across the globe to play for you in March! I've been wanting to visit your beautiful land for too long and it's finally happening. My first headline tour outside of Europe!"

With the ability to deftly dissect the human experience with delicate vocals and a lyrical depth, Atwell rose to fame in 2021 with the release of the 'Already, Always' album; a collection of songs themed around longing, connection and mortality, Atwell found a new audience who were grappling with the enforced lockdowns of 2020-21.

Last year, Bess teamed with The National's Aaron Dessner who produced her third longplayer 'Light Sleeper', the songwriting influenced by Atwell's recent diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

"What a joy to finally be able to talk about this and share my excitement with you all," Bess posted last year. "I got to make this record with one of my all time favourite musicians/ producers and spend time at his beautiful Upstate New York studio, Long Pond. It was a dream come true.

"Despite working with some of the world's biggest stars, Aaron's commitment to the 'little guy' is astonishing. He told me that 'Light Sleeper' is the first album he's worked on in several years that he didn't write, which is a huge huge honour.

"There are so many incredible people that helped to make this record who I’ll shout about in due course, but I’d be remiss to not mention Bella Blasko who was the engineer and mixer of dreams. "I am so proud of every song on this album and it feels the most 'me' of anything I've released before. I can't wait for you to hopefully hear some of yourself in it too."
