WAM's World: Western Australian Music News November-December 2019

Stella Donnelly won the inaugural Artist Of The Year Award at the 2019 WAMAwards.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A brief glimpse at the goings-on in the WA music industry, rounded up by WAM aka West Australian Music.

WAMFest Went Off With A Bang!

We’ve just wrapped up a mammoth three days across the WAMAwards, WAMCon and WAMFest and it was bigger and better than ever before.

The 2019 WAMAwards saw 36 special vinyl record trophies awarded to the cream of the crop of WA music. Congratulations to all the nominees and winners with special mention to the Golden WAMi winner Nigel Bird, and Stella Donnelly for taking out the inaugural Artist Of The Year Award.

WAMCon delivered two days of conversation-fuelling panels, practical masterclasses and networking opportunities galore at the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia, with 65-plus international and Australian music industry experts captivating, inspiring and educating attendees.

WAMFest brought it all home by lighting up Perth City and Northbridge with a monstrous 130-plus acts across 20 stages. Crowds flocked to The Bird to see our headliner for the night Stella Donnelly, but the party didn’t stop there. The one and only Drapht was our mystery performer at the WAMFest after party, held at Perth’s newest venue The Rechabite.

Regional Roundtable

Thirty music community members from all nine regions in WA gathered for a day-long meeting on the Thursday before WAMCon to network and discuss presentations covering nine topics relevant to regional music in Western Australia.

It was great to see so many people passionate and raring to go. These discussions will help inform WAM’s regional programmes and activities.

New Noise Collective Library Sessions

We’re excited to reveal the New Noise Collective Library Sessions are returning to the State Library of Western Australia.

Proudly presented by WAM and Act-Belong-Commit, these free and all-ages sessions will showcase some of the best WA talent on Saturday afternoons: Grace Barbé and Segue (14 December); Erasers and Phoebus Cartel (11 January); Kruger James and Queecy (9 February).

Kiss My Camera

WA’s fave music photography competition, Kiss My Camera, is on its way. Photographers, keep your eyes peeled for an announcement because you won’t want to miss out.
