WAM's World: West Australian Music News September-October 2019

Tashi Hall (Feels) has been nominated for the Filmmaker Award and Live Music Photography Award at the Australian Women In Music Awards.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A brief glimpse at the goings-on in the WA music industry, rounded up by WAM aka West Australian Music.

WAMFest Volunteer Callout

The word is out. WAMFest presented by Act-Belong-Commit is coming up fast and we’re looking for superstar volunteers to join our team for this year’s event. We’ll need helping hands at the live showcases and events, the WAM Conference and WAM Awards.

So whatever your skill set, we’d love to hear from you. If you’re available between Thursday 31 October and Saturday 2 November, and are interested in jumping onboard, head to the application form on our website.

WAMCon Early Bird Tickets

We may live in the most isolated capital in the country, but you won’t have to go far this November for your industry networking. Our annual industry conference, WAMCon, returns 1-2 November, providing the opportunity for you to liaise with national and international booking agents, promoters, publishers and industry experts in your own backyard.

This year’s conference draws attention to issues including diversity, accessibility and sustainability practices through a combination of panels, presentations, one-on-one networking opportunities and the much loved Quay Note Boat Party. Early bird tickets are now on sale through the WAMFest website.

Girls Rock! WA October Camp

Applications for this year’s camp have closed, but the excitement is just beginning. The second instalment of the camp will feature a range of speciality workshops with notable WA musicians, including songwriting with Carla Geneve, culture and identity with Grace Barbé, and electronic music with Feels. Head to the Girls Rock! WA website to check out all the info.

Australian Women In Music Awards

There’s no denying the incredible contribution of individuals and organisations of the WA music community are making on a national level. So it’s no surprise talented and much loved locals Tashi Hall and Elise Reitze-Swensen (Feels) are finalists in the Australian Women In Music Awards.

Congratulations to Tashi, nominated for the Filmmaker Award and Live Music Photography Award, and Elise, nominated for the Music Leadership Award and Studio Production Award. We know which winners we’d be picking.
