The fast-approaching Easter long weekend brings with it one of Australia's longest-running and most-loved events, the National Folk Festival.
Held annually in Canberra, the National Folk Festival runs into its 52nd year in 2018 (29 March to 2 April) and boasts a programme featuring over 900 individual events and concerts celebrating the cornucopia of folk culture from around the world, including music, art, dance, circus and spoken word.
The National Folk Festival 2018 programme was officially launched at the National Library Of Australia by Minister Gordon Ramsay (ACT Attorney-General; Minister for the Arts and Community Events). The launch will also included the presentation of the National Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award to this year's recipients, Margaret And Bill Winnett.
The line-up for the 2018 National Folk Festival includes Irish songstress Aine Tyrell (read our 2017 article with her here), who released her 'Fledging Fall' EP last September. It also features a huge Australian contingent including Alice Skye, All Our Exes Live In Texas, Bush Gothic, Hat Fitz & Cara, The Bottlers (click here to read our Feb 2018 interview wuth the band) and heaps more.
Whether your tastes in folk are local or global, traditional or contemporary the National Folk Festival has it covered.
The National Folk Festival takes place at Exhibition Park (Canberra) 29 March-2 April.
