A Melbourne-based drummer, percussionist and artist, last week Kat Greta released her debut EP 'Rhythm & Reverie'.
A collection of songs reflecting a year of creative exploration balancing joy, reflection and loss, it features previous singles 'Shoot Me Lover', 'Set You Up' (which we premiered) and 'Season To Believe (Reimagined)'.
Produced in collaboration with Nathan Zammit, the EP also features a fourth song dedicated to Greta's recently departed father, providing a reflective counterpoint to the upbeat, percussion-driven energy that defines much of the EP.
"The title 'Rhythm & Reverie' made sense because that's been my life this year," Greta says. "The rhythm is the joy and the movement. The reverie is the reflection and the loss. Making this EP helped me hold both.
"These songs grew from the drums up, including 'Shoot Me Lover', 'Set You Up' and a reimagined 'Season To Believe'. There's also a track for my dad, the heart of this project."
Known for her energetic live performances, often placing percussion at the forefront and inviting audiences to engage with the beat, Greta continues to carve out a distinctive place in indie pop by blending melodic clarity, emotional truth, and pulse-driven energy.
Who is Kat Greta... I'm a percussionist and indie artist. I grew up surrounded by instruments and classical training, but these days I'm happiest writing songs and just bashing around, seeing what kind of noise I can make sound good.
I sound like... Feel-good grooves with a bit of retro and straight-from-the-heart vibes.
Our first gig was... At the Whole Lotta Love Bar in East Brunswick, Melbourne, a tiny, messy dive bar on Lygon Street that we absolutely loved. Shame it's closed now.
In the studio I usually... Follow my gut. Producers and engineers bring so much magic. . . they never get enough credit.
If I could tour with anyone... Anyone who's fun, fearless, and maybe lets me sneak in a cheeky drum takeover now and then.
Social media is... A love-hate relationship. Sometimes it inspires. Sometimes it eats your soul. I think I'm a little addicted right now.
My favourite app at the moment is... Canva. It lets me turn ideas into something real, fast, and share my music, my vibe, and my vision without getting stuck in the boring technical stuff.
To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... I pointed at Shane Warne in front of his ex-wife Simone and said: "Look, it's Shane Crawford." Still recovering.
Life on the road can be... Tough and exhausting, with long days and strange nights; but honestly, it's still one of the most rewarding things I get to do.
If you'll have us on your bill, all I ask is that our rider contains... A trusty kettle, three different types of chips (for artistic reasons), and a small inflatable duck to keep the vibes in check. Bonus if the duck can be named in advance.
The most scary scenario I've found myself in was... Slipping off a cliff at Tiger Leaping Gorge in China and hanging on by a bush, like something out of a cartoon. Oh, and hitchhiking through Turkey.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? I love cooking! It'd be a crazy degustation, probably including ricotta gnocchi or ravioli and something chocolatey.
When it comes to pets, are you a lover or hater? A lover. I'm forever torn between adopting a furry friend and admitting I'm too busy to be a decent pet mum.
No matter the expense, send me... A lifetime supply of chocolate and zero judgment.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? Folding the washing. It multiplies if I look away.
Do you have any phobias... Mosquitoes. Yellowstone. Varanasi. The Everglades. They've all tried their best.
Would you ever partake in a reality show? Nope. I'm too shy.
If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? My mate Lu. Once she called me pretending to be a customer who'd bought a taco and said the cheese smelled like her husband's socks. I panicked and cancelled every cheese order for every shop. I'm still plotting my revenge.
Best local takeaway joint for a midnight feed that will leave you with a food coma? Gateway Charcoal Chicken in Langwarrin. Chips and gravy next level, salads great too; now I really want some for dinner.
Which fictional character best describes your personality? Homer Simpson – snacks first, plans second, but surprisingly loyal and somehow surviving it all.
Last show you binge-watched? 'One Day' – heartbreaking, electric romance that you can't stop watching.
