Mums Favourite began life as a high school mass service band before they fell for the devil's music.
Inspired by the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Mums Favourite began gigging seriously last year.In 2020, they've released two singles – their debut 'Red Room' and current release 'Eye Contact'.
Both songs showcase an emerging band with serious musical chops; definitely watch this space 'cause Mums Favourite will soon be your new favourite band. Trust.
Mums Favourite's next live gig is part of The Journey series (13 December), which is the opening ceremony for each episode of Parks and Rockreation – part of the GO LIVE programme presented by Umbrella Festival.
The Journey showcases past Music SA students and the journey they've taken since undergoing their Certificate at Music SA. Joining Mums Favourite is Taylor Pfeiffer.
If you're interested in studying with Music SA they offer courses for both school students and adult learners. Check out their 2021 courses.
We catch up with Sasha (lead singer) and Brooke (bass) to learn more about Mums Favourite. You're welcome.
Who is Mums Favourite? A five-piece alt indie band that formed in the midst of hating high school.
We sound like... We take inspiration from bands like Arctic Monkeys and TLSP, but we have worked really hard to develop our own sound, especially in the local scene.
Our first gig was... At Say.Kitchen for local music photographer Evie Wonder and her photo exhibition in September 2019.
When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision... Our first ever band name was Soggy Dog, but it didn't end up sticking. Mums Favourite fits us better.
In the studio we usually... Take a massive esky of food and eat it all in the first hour.
If we could tour with anyone... It would be another local Adelaide band The Birds Are Spies. If we had to support a bigger artist, we'd die to tour with Arctic Monkeys.
Social media is... A bit toxic innit?
My favourite app at the moment is... TikTok because we can spend hours without thinking about our future and social pressures :)
To date, our most embarrassing moment was the time... We wrote this song called 'Pyromaniac'. It was just the worst.
Life on the road can be... We've never been on the road more than half an hour, and even then we were tired.
If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains... A microphone that doesn't stink of past performers spit.
The most scary scenario we've found ourselves in, was... The naked guy.
What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band? Elliot Page because we support him!
Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party? Matthew McConaughey x3 just to hear him say "alright, alright, alright".
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Definitely not spaghetti, especially before a show.
No matter the expense, send me a case of... Kath and Kim boxsets.
The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Year 9 PE class.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? Existing.
Do you have any phobias? The moonlight man from 'Gerald's Game'.
Would you ever partake in a reality show? 'Survivor', but we would not survive.
If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? Honestly knowing us, the memo would be missed and the prank wouldn't work.
Make sure you get along early to Parks and Rockreation Ep 03 on 13 December (from 2.30pm) at Whitmore Square in Adelaide to check out The Journey acts Mums Favourite and Taylor Pfeiffer before headliners Stellie, Nancy Bates and St Jaxques round out the entertainment. Mums Favourite also join The Mor at The Golden Wattle (Adelaide) on 19 December.
