Scottish producer Hudson Mohawke, Warp Records and G.O.O.D. Music signee and one half of TNGHT, has slammed Jay-Z for playing it safe on his new record, Magna Carta Holy Grail.
"Hove is not quite ready," tweeted HudMo, whose fingerprints are all over Kanye West's Yeezus; "had a gang of my stuff to choose from n passed up on it for his record. Ye on th other hand unafraid to take risks."
"I fucking love jay z for the record," he quickly added, but he hasn't exactly backtracked from his initial tweet — he's been retweeting a slew of followers who agree that Jigga didn't take enough risks on the record.
As you can see, the consensus seems to be that Jay is simply too big to fail.

@HudMo Jay-Z has too much to lose to take risks, the beauty of Kanye is that he can do whatever the fuck he wants and it shows.

@Kris_Miles @HudMo maybe that's the problem, when a rapper becomes a brand that's too big to fail they also become paralysed by reputation.

N I fucking love jay z for the record

real talk, I agree with @HudMo Jay Z played it so safe with MCHG whereas Yeezus was way more experimental.

@ScottzillaUK @HudMo I haven't seen anyone bitter, just upset that Jay is stuck in his ways. There's no progression.

@HudMo jay just does shit over and over, ye's career and Yeezus was all based on pushing the envelope. a much better record imo

@Imdanielalright @HudMo Jay-Z has to adere to a certain way of thinking about his image as he has a public image to uphold
— Kris Miles (@Kris_Miles) July 4, 2013
@HudMo if i was to use one word to describe the album it would be "safe"
— Murray McGinley (@IAmTheMurr) July 4, 2013
Just my personal opinions dont get all buttt hurt. This record could've came out 10 yrs ago n no one wouldve batted an eye lid. That is all
— hudson mohawke (@HudMo) July 4, 2013
Dam ppl love to argue! Just expressing an opinion here friendos
— hudson mohawke (@HudMo) July 4, 2013
@williecross @HudMo it's just a shame cos he released the likes of 'the black album' and 'blueprint' so you know he can do so much more.

@HudMo im only feeling 2 songs.. crown and oceans. the rest is just ambient samsung please hold music ...
— robin fogarty (@robin_fogarty) July 4, 2013
@HudMo Yeezus had to happen for hip hop to evolve, jay played it safe, because he likes where hip hop is today.
