The sublime indie folk voice that is Briston Maroney has added a couple of headline dates to his Australian visit next month.
Already slated to open for The Kooks on their national tour, the 'Freakin' Out On The Interstate', 'Small Talk', 'Caroline' American songwriter will play standalone gigs in Sydney and Melbourne."Adding our very first headlining shows in Australia while swinging through to open for legends The Kooks. A Nashville native, who has shared stages with Vance Joy and Noah Kahan while lighting up festivals from Lollapalooza to Osheaga, Briston has released two studio albums, his most recent being 2023's 'Ultrapure' that was produced by Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves) where Maroney plays every instrument.
"Making this record and these videos and these songs were truly some of the best days of my life, but not because they were even remotely all good haha. In fact this period of time was driven by some wicked powerful self-deprecation hahaha.
"I was so full of doubt and self-conscious anxiety at this time, really questioning if I deserved the spot in the universe I so boldly had believed I did when I was a wee lad haha.
"But making this record helped me experiment with what it meant to be alive, what value as a chump like me really looked like. Wearing a damn wizard hat everywhere and eating weird gas station edibles and staring at the stars and cryin' and laughing and lovin' and livin'.
"I felt old when I was making it but already know those were maybe some of my last truly youthful days and good god they were vivid. Thank you for accepting this record and myself in all these different stages, that's truly the greatest gift you can give another person. Love y'all infinitely and can't wait to continue hearing y'alls stories with this record."
Briston's most recent single is 'Monday', which was released last September.
