Bluesfest keep levelling up, adding another 11 acts to its 2024 bill with this artist reveal focused on the Thursday instalment.
With a line-up already stacked with immense talent – we're talking Jack Johnson, Tom Jones, The Teskey Brothers, Matt Corby, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Peter Garrett & The Alter Egos, Taj Mahal, The Dead South and a heap more - the Bluesfest crew have made Easter 2024 even sweeter.'Feel It Still' and 'Live In The Moment' rockers Portugal. The Man will headline the Thursday session, the Alaskan natives recently releasing their ninth studio album, 'Chris Black Changed My Life' (that features their latest banger 'Dummy').
Australian folk-roots singer-songwriter Ziggy Alberts returns to Bluesfest for the first time since 2018; the 'Laps Around The Sun' artist is also nominated (for a second time) for Best Blues and Roots Album at 2023 ARIA Awards.
There'll also be a couple of once-in-a-lifetime experiences on offer including gospel music institution (for over 80 years) Blind Boys of Alabama, who take to the Bluesfest stage for a ninth time (their first appearance was in 1992).
While it'll be a unique moment when The Turner Brown Band – the project between Australian slide guitarist Dom Turner (of Backsliders) and USA-based lap-slide guitar and vocal sensation Nikki D Brown – bring the southern US church-based Sacred Steel sound to life – find out why Guitar World describe them as the 'Jimi Hendrix of Sacred Steel'.
Snarky Puppy, Meshell Ndegeocello, Fiona Boyes & The Fortune Tellers and Pierce Brothers will also venture to Bluesfest in 2024. "We have loaded some simply stunning headline artists onto Thursday's bill, making it impossible to miss," Festival Director, Peter Noble OAM says.
"We are incredibly excited to have Portugal. The Man headlining Thursday night. This is a prolific band that creates amazing music. Their record-breaking song 'Feel It Still' has had almost 1.2 billion listens on Spotify and over 350 million views on YouTube. The rest of their catalogue is equally as good, and we're absolutely delighted to have them play Bluesfest for the first time.
"Ziggy Alberts is also a fan favourite, having played Bluesfest back in 2018 and recently sold out The Green Room here on the Bluesfest site.
"Blind Boys of Alabama have an incredibly rich history at Bluesfest, having played Bluesfest eight times, the first back in 1992. They are indisputably the most well-known gospel band in the world, and I am so proud to have them play at our 35th-anniversary special.
"The Turner Brown Band, known for Sacred Steel, are among the few bands touring this style of music. To catch Sacred Steel, you would normally have to participate in a church service in the deep south of the USA. This is an act not to be missed."
Tickets are on sale.
Bluesfest takes place at Byron Events Farm (Byron Bay) 28 March to 1 April, 2024.
