Blowhard Pay One Final Tribute To Their Leader Rollo With A Massive Send-Off Gig

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Brisbane punk band Blowhard suffered a tragic lost two years ago when their founder and vocalist Rollo suffered a heart attack just prior to a performance and died.

The central figure of not only Blowhard, but Brisbane's DIY, independent music scene as well, his death shook the local and national punk community.

The band has only played one show since: the 2019 Dead Of Winter Festival (which they were already booked to play prior to Rollo's death; and Frenzal Rhomb's Jay Whalley was a guest vocalist); a special performance on the first anniversary of Rollo's passing was cancelled due to COVID-related lockdowns.

Now the group are gathering for one, final time with a host of guest vocalists to pay tribute to their leader alongside a stack of their close friends from top-flight local alternative acts: Fat, Flangipanis, Shandy, Strange Stains, Emma Bosworth and The Fred Band.

Rollo's legacy will never be forgotten; aside from leading Blowhard as well as playing in a host of other bands, he worked tirelessly as concert promoter (many a well-known band often played one of their first shows at a Rollo-promoted gig: Custard, Powderfinger and members of Regurgitator).

He also featured heavily as a 4ZZZ radio personality, and an all-round supporter of the local DIY music world.
