An emerging indie pop singer-songwriter, Cloe Terare has quickly garnered national attention with a series of catchy singles.
Last year 'Scotty (Beam Me Up)' and 'Take The Crown' both showcased an artist with a diverse sound palette married to lyrics that resonate emotionally. Then she dropped the luscious bop 'Cadillac' followed by her single 'Lifeboat' that's another juicy slice of enticing pop drizzled in bouncy-trap beats that features a collab with Brisbane hip hop duo Safety Club.
Just this week, Cloe again teamed with rapper iiiCONIC ('Cadillac') on his newest single 'Mystery'.
Another project Cloe recently released was a collaboration with electronic artist Paces, where the duo recorded lo-fi bedroom pop material under the moniker Dayliites.
It's no wonder Cloe will showcase her talents at 2022 BIGSOUND as well as appearing at Sunshine Coast's Horizon Festival.
A feast for all the senses, Horizon Festival in 2022 welcomes a programme bursting with music, visual art, performance, dance, family entertainment, spoken word, comedy and workshops.
As her star continues to rise, here Cloe shares some spooky history about her current home Toowoomba with five haunted places. "I've been living here for a while now and only ever had one ghostly run-in," shares Cloe.
"One day when I was having a shower my hanging towels were ruffled away from the wall as if my cats were running behind them – but both of my cats were locked out of the room at the time.
"My boyfriend and I spent so long trying to figure out any possible other outcome for the weird event, but I'm convinced we have a pet ghost. So if you ask me, I agree Toowoomba is haunted!"
1: The Royal Bull's Head Inn
The Royal Bull's Head is an inn that was built by an ex-convict in the nineteenth century, and was a place where lots of drinking, smoking and apparently many deaths happened. You can tour the Inn where they still have rooms and artefacts of the era set up to view, just as it was in the nineteenth century. They also host monthly paranormal evenings in partnership with Toowoomba Ghost tours; there have been reports of people being touched or scratched and even getting their hair pulled by ghosts.
2: Ascot House
Ascot House was a private home where apparently a servant named Maggie Hume was believed to have committed suicide by drinking a lethal dose of a chemical pesticide in 1891.Occupants of the home in future years reported feeling her fingers run across their shoulders and hearing Maggie running through the house. Neighbours also reported sightings of Maggie.
3: Drayton Cemetery - The little red girl
It is said that a girl in a red dress who died in 1944 after being hit by a train, roams the Drayton Cemetery and follows you around if you visit. Many Toowoomba residents believe they have seen her wandering around, and a few even claim to have photographed the woman. A ghost chaser even recorded electromagnetic energy changes on a K2 Meter after mentioning her name in the cemetery. Spooky.
4: Downlands College
Apparently used as a military quarter during the war, the boys school has a famous school picture that seems to feature a ghost. There has also been sightings of many ghosts in the school, the most prominent being a priest who roams the chapel, a woman that haunts the administration building, and a man on fire who appears throughout the campus.5: De Molay House
Once a reformatory for girls, it is a site that is said to be haunted by multiple girls who committed suicide there – apparently you can sometimes see the ghost of an inmate in the attic, where they committed suicide by hanging themselves because the conditions were so bad.Cloe Terare plays Horizon Festival's Open Air programme at Dicky Beach (Sunshine Coast) 27 August. Cloe will also showcase at 2022 BIGSOUND (Brisbane) which runs 6-9 September.
