Welcome news for the music industry, with the AIR Awards to go ahead in 2020 with the ceremony to be staged in Adelaide.
Set to return to the iconic Freemasons Hall on 1 October, the ceremony is provisional and dependent on further social distancing restrictions being eased. If the COVID-19 lockdown continues, event organisers have contingencies in place to shift the Awards to a digital showcase. The staging of the AIR Awards in such tumultuous times is vitally important for the music industry, not only to celebrate and promote the successes of the Australian independent sector but to also rally together to face these unprecedented and challenging obstacles.
Last year, Courtney Barnett won the Best Independent Artist award while G Flip scored the gong for Breakthrough Independent Artist Of Year, which again highlights the very-high quality of musicians the AIR Awards attract.
