“Do you guys ever think about dying?”

We’ve seen a brief, pink look at the upcoming Greta Gerwig film ‘Barbie’, which had the internet swirling with rumours and thoughts. . . Are the bright colours and camp costumes all a front for something a little darker? Is there more to the story? Well, some of the hottest questions about the new film have been answered in its main trailer.

In it, viewers get a further look into the film’s plot, as Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) take a whirlwind trip from Barbie Land to the real world, where things aren’t as peachy.

Barbie is seen noticing some things are amiss in her technicolour home – and begins to long for more. With guidance from a Barbie that looks like she’s been through it with scissors and textas, played by Kate McKinnon, Margot’s Barbie hits the road and it’s not long before her and Ken get into some trouble. Mugshots, a frenzied run through what looks like the Mattel head office. . . Barbie and Ken are causing chaos and luckily – for the sake of keeping some things a surprise – there are even still parts of the story which remain under wraps.

If you love Barbie, this movie is for you. If you hate Barbie, this movie is for you.

Artists featured on the film’s soundtrack are from all over the pop landscape too – there’s Ava Max, Charli XCX, Due Lipa, Ice Spice, Lizzo, PinkPantheress, and even a musical appearance from Ryan Gosling.

‘Barbie’ is in cinemas 20 July.
