Liverpool four-piece Circa Waves have been announced as the support for The 1975's 2015 Australian tour.
With a new single, 'Fossils', (following appearances at this year’s Splendour In The Grass and Glastonury) Circa Waves' guitarist, Joe Falconer, has selected his favourite, fictional dinosuars.
Theodore Rex
In 1995, via the medium of Whoopi Goldberg, the world was given the gift of Theodore Rex. Here's the plot description from Wikipedia: 'In an alternate, futuristic society, a tough, female police detective is paired with a talking dinosaur to find the killer of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals leading them to a ruthless billionaire bent on killing off mankind by creating a new ice age.' The talking, fictional dinosaur in question is one Theodore Rex. A tiny handed, wise-cracking dino detective. I'm pretty sure that film won all of the Oscars that year.
Gertie The Dinosaur
Gertie is the oldest, fictional dinosaur on the list - invented in 1914 by animator Winsor McCay. Based on a Brontosaurus (which is apparently now known as an Apatosaurs. Who knew?!?) she appears in a short film performing small tricks for her creator, which makes this not only an early instance of a fictional dinosaur, but an early instance of the exploitation of a fictional dinosaur too.
Barney
The third dinosaur on the list, is purple and taught a generation of Americans how to love. Google tells us that Barney's favourite food despite being a carnivorous T-Rex is peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Google also tells me that David Joyner, the man in the suit, was apparently pretty successful romantically as a result of his Barney fame.
Baby Sinclair
Supposedly a Ceratosaurus, but resembling more of a crushed Michelin man, Baby Sinclair is the anthropomorphic hero of the short-lived '90s sitcom 'Dinosaurs'. Voiced by the same guy who did Elmo, Baby was the king of slapstick and catchphrases. Gotta Love Me!Reptar
Last but not least, we have Tommy Pickles' favourite dinosaur. The only fictional dinosaur on the list to have a brand of fictional cereal and non-fictional theme park ride named after them. He also had his own ice-skating extravaganza called 'Reptar On Ice' and it was magical.1975 Tour Dates
