Sydney Rock 'n' Roll & Alternative Markets will be an alluring event for music enthusiasts this March.
Part market, part music festival and part meeting place, the Sydney Rock 'n' Roll & Alternative Markets will provide a unique shopping experience and a great day out for everyone of all ages. Taking place over three floors and across two vast courtyards, punters will be able to browse through rock & roll, alternative, vintage, handmade and unique clothing for men, women and children, jewellery, accessories, posters, artwork, tikis, homewares, collectables, retro hair and make-up stylists, vinyl LPs, cult DVDs and more.
There will also be a range of activities for those experiencing shopping fatigue, including enjoying retro tunes in the laid-back Tiki Bar and international food court, dancing lessons and a classic and vintage vehicle display. There will also be a café, bars and giant outdoor games the kids will love.
For lovers of live music, fear not, as legendary Californian singer Big Sandy will be reuniting with his buddies Los Straitjackets for a surf rock spectacular. Big Sandy is considered a torchbearer of American roots music and has toured continuously for over 25 years. As a singer, songwriter, bandleader and entertainer, Big Sandy has few contemporaries. Leaving his Fly-Rite band at home, Big Sandy will be joined by Los Straitjackets. The instrumental Grammy nominees from Nashville have garnered a cult following, known for their style of black clothing, gold Aztec medallions and personalised Mexican wrestling masks. With over 13 studio albums under their belt and reputation for elaborate live shows, Los Straitjackets promise to be a memorable music experience.
Pat Capocci, Australia's greatest rockabilly delinquent will be taking the stage at the Manning Bar with his raw and energetic music stylings. Also playing the Sydney Rock 'n' Roll & Alternative Market will be Mother Truckers playing a blend of rockabilly, stompin’ swamp and more. The markets will also be treated to DJs Rockin’ Marc Rondeau, Rod Almighty, The Crimplenes, and Solid Gold Hell DJs.
There will also be a '50s Rock 'n' Roll Dancing Beginners, and with no prior dance experience or dance partner is required, the class is sure to go down swingin'.
Sydney Rock 'n' Roll & Alternative Market will be held at Manning House & Bar at Sydney University, 15 March.
