Sydneyites are getting their bums on bikes for the city’s annual Sydney Rides Festival this October.
The festival has over 20 events taking place over 2 weeks. From daring BMX bike stunts, pop-up breakfast stalls, film screenings, live music and gourmet food trucks by the harbour, there’s something to please everyone.
Marking four years since the festival first started, this year will see a brand new event take place – Sydney Rides the Night. Taking people on a loop ride past underlit trees, light shows and stunning views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, this event is sure to illuminate the night.
Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, is inviting people of all ages to get involved and enjoy the bike-friendly festivities. “With bigger and better events planned this year, Sydney Rides continues to grow into one of Sydney’s best annual festivals. There’s something for everyone, from beginners to regular riders,” he says.
“Spring Cycle entrants can wind down after their ride and join the Family Fun Bike Day in Pirrama Park in Pyrmont on Sunday 19 October, while the new night ride will light up a route around the Royal Botanic Gardens and bring the festival to a spectacular end.
“Sydney Rides is a great opportunity to explore our beautiful city by bike while keeping fit. Our network of separated cycleways and shared paths are giving people a safe and convenient way to cycle and we’re seeing the number of people choosing to ride grow every year.”
With events held everyday, highlights of the festival include the Sydney Rides to Work on October 15, Sydney Rides the City on October 19 and Sydney Rides the Night on October 25.
Sydney Rides Festival takes place October 11 to 25.
