For the next few weeks, the Gold Coast is bursting at the seams with arts, music and interactive events as this years Bleach* Festival gets underway.
Following 2017's theme of exploring the relationship between art and sport, it has resulted in a well-rounded festival featuring a range of shows and events.
Activating more than 20 public spaces with music, dance, circus, theatre, cabaret and installation, it showcases both free and ticketed events with artists from local, interstate and international acclaim. Broadbeach has opened its first Spiegeltent which is home to international hit cabaret 'Blanc de Blanc' while the Arts Centre has the world premiere of dance company The Farm's newest work 'Frank Enstein'.
The opening weekend saw the festival enjoying 'Saltwater Sessions' on the Coolangatta foreshore, featuring music from Dope Lemon, Ash Grunwald and Emily Wurramara, and visual artist Amanda Parers' giant figures lighting up Varsity Lakes alongside a live soundtrack from TH’FIKA, The Ruiins and Austen.
There is still so much left before the festival is over. Head to Sign Of The Times at Gold Coast Arts Centre, an exhibition of street art from artists such as Banksy, Bambi and Blek Le Rat as well as a range of local artists.
Not quite your thing? Try heading to Pizzey Park skate park in Miami for a street style performance of professional skaters, BMX riders, dancers and parkour-ists that has wowed audiences from Finland to Hong Kong. Got little ones? Head to Robina Town Centre for 'Here I Am' an interactive installation bringing to life art and play spaces for children and their families to explore.
With Bleach* Festival well underway, and still so much to see, you had better get involved before it is done for another year!
