With her new single freshly released – 'This Is Home' - Héloise is now preparing for the launch this week in her adopted home, Melbourne.
'This Is Home' was inspired by Héloise’s journey as a musician leaving her home of Tasmania to move her life to the big city of Melbourne. Her organic and unfettered folk sound, alongside her unique, quirky vocals complement the lyrics that express the feeling of being a stranger in a new city. “I absolutely love the creative culture in Melbourne and have been so inspired by this place I now call home,” she explains.
But Héloise still has fond memories of her home state, Tasmania. Here are her top 5 underrated things about the Apple Isle.
The Beaches
Contrary to popular belief, Tassie actually has warm days through summer and going to the beach is always amazing because often you will have the whole beach to yourself… No sand in my face! They’re super clean and we have some of the best surf in the country.The People
Though it has been said of late that Tassie is full of 'dregs, bogans and third-generation morons', I beg to differ. There’s an incredible creative, artistic and cultural community who are determined to keep Tassie a secret (because it does have so much to offer). Tasmanians are among the friendliest people you’ll meet.The Air
Seriously, stepping off a plane and breathing in is like being transported to a magical forest with waterfalls running with unicorn tears. Funny how you can take the little things for granted... things that just so happen to keep you alive and well on this mortal coil.The Climate
Where else can you experience four, distinct seasons in all their glory. The light, the colours, the smells… not only that, you’re only ever a maximum of two hours away from snow in winter and two hours from the beach in summer.The Op Shops
Oh my lordy, the op shops. I think 95 percent of my wardrobe (the other 5 percent being undies and socks… I’m not THAT into op shopping!) has been scavenged from local op shops. I’ve found some absolute gems over the years and accumulated so much stuff; I have half my wardrobe here in Melbourne and the other half in Tassie.{youtube}jtMMol8j0Qw{/youtube}
