XR:WA 2020 – Celebrating Virtual/Augmented Reality and Technology In WA

XR:WA
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

XR:WA will present three days of industry conference and four days of public expo, bringing together local, national and international guests to discuss the industry of virtual/augmented reality, immersive technology and computer games.

It's WA's major celebration of the industry, a celebration established in 2019 by the producers of the Revelation Perth International Film Festival. The aim is to showcase the depth and diversity of the field in WA.

The 2020 programme includes delegate-only workshops, panels, talks, keynotes and screenings, a free public expo showcasing local computer and table-top games and businesses working with immersive technology, a free moving image art installation at PICA, nightly beer and board games events at the Alex Hotel, a mentoring programme connecting new and emerging practitioners with influential game designers and producers, and a host of free experiences for the whole family.

"What is being achieved by local organisations and the current and future capability of these technologies is nothing short of astonishing, and we hope that this small glimpse into that work inspires a new generation of creatives and business," conference director Richard Sowada says.

"When we laid the groundwork for the first event in 2019, we realised how many people and industries were working across these technologies in WA, but how few were connecting.

"With this event, we’re hoping to demonstrate the convergence of these forms and businesses and provide the opportunity for screen artists and businesses in WA to discover creative and career paths both in our grasp and over the horizon."

National and international guests include controversial futurist Mark Pesce, game pioneer John Romero, 'Untitled Goose Game' producer Cherie Davidson, Sabra Williams speaking about VR in prisoner rehab, and CERN Head Of Robotics Mario di Castro.

Programme and ticket information can be found here.

XR:WA is on at various WA venues from 3-6 December.
