Since first debuting as a video game in October 1996, the Tomb Raider universe has expanded to include 30-plus video game titles and a number of feature films and comic book spin-offs, not to mention countless awards and 81 million copies of the game sold globally.
The protagonist of the action-adventure series, Lara Croft has battled T-Rexes, unearthed ancient artefacts, and saved the world from an apocalypse or two. Heck, she's even appeared live on tour with U2.Lara has had adventures exploring the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Andaman Seas, ventured to Antarctica and the Arctic Circle, and rediscovered Atlantis and the lost island of Yamatai.
"Over the last 25 years Tomb Raider has become more than a game and Lara Croft has risen to become a cultural icon," Scot Amos, Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics, says.
"We're so proud to be a part of this rich tapestry of adventure, but we recognise the true credit belongs to the fans.
"The amazing Tomb Raider community has made all of this possible and we look forward to celebrating with them this historic milestone and for many decades to come."
Part of the year-long celebrations will include in-depth explorations of the major Tomb Raider games with nostalgic deep dives into the archives including developer interviews, community activities, live play-throughs, and much more.
