OK, so 2012 didn't end with a zombie apocalypse, but that doesn't mean it won't happen eventually.
The best preparation for this inevitable catastrophe might just be The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, the upcoming first-person shooter based on the hit AMC TV show.
(At this point, true geeks might be upset we didn't say 'based on the hit comic book', but the game's protagonists — outlaw brothers Daryl and Merle Dixon — are unique to the TV show.)
Bizarrely, the first footage released for Survival Instinct doesn't feature Daryl's signature crossbow or the 'scent mechanic' the developers are hoping will separate the game from the slew of survival-horror FPS games on the market, but it does feature plenty of stabby, sledgehammer-y, zombie killing action.
Survival Instinct, a prequel to the show that follows Daryl and Merle's "haunting, unforgiving quest across the Georgia countryside to reach the supposed safety of Atlanta", will have to do a lot to measure up to previous Walking Dead games, including Telltale's widely acclaimed adventure series and the surprisingly good iOS exclusive The Walking Dead: Assault.
