The CEO of an American bitcoin exchange has been found dead at her home in Singapore.

Autumn Radtke, 28, was the CEO of First Meta, an exchange for the controversial digital currency bitcoin. She had previously worked with Apple and other Silicon Valley tech firms.

"The First Meta team is shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of our friend and CEO Autumn Radtke," said Douglas Adams, the non-executive chairman of First Meta, in a statement released by the company. "Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends and loved ones. Autumn was an inspiration to all of us and she will be sorely missed."

Radtke was found dead in her apartment on February 28; investigators are awaiting toxicology reports to confirm her death was a suicide.

Radtke's death follows last week's collapse of the Japanese-based Mt Gox bitcoin exchange (after $400 million went missing) and yesterday's closure of Canada's Flexcoin bank (after computer hackers robbed $600,000).

Two weeks before her death, Radtke posted an essay she called 'The Psychological Price Of Entrepreneurship', in which she wrote that "everything has its price".
