5 Things NOT To Do In Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

If you're a tech head, or just seeking an escape from the chaos of real life, the experience of a Virtual Reality is an ever-evolving environment to immerse yourself in; and the Brisbane Virtual Reality Club Meetup is the place to do so.

The meetup is a social and networking event for everyone from beginners to seasoned developers to connect, collaborate and construct VR experiences. The VR Club Meetup is an interactive way to discuss VR in RL, see industry speakers and their latest ideas and work, and a chance to develop and experience new VR work.

Virtual Reality
For those unfamiliar with a Virtual Reality, it's a multimedia platform depicting a computer-simulated life. These simulations replicate an environment and physical presence in a real or fantasy world and allow the to user interact like they're really there. Virtual Reality artificially creates sensory experiences, including: sight, hearing, touch, and smell. So you feel like you're really there, but you're really not. These worlds are often achieved with a combination of headphones, goggles, sensory pads, motion detectors, or in specially designed interactive rooms.

The VR Club Meetup's new home at Brisbane Powerhouse means the club is growing in size, and their mission is to provide an international network of support and education for local VR developers. Club owner and organiser, Alexander Van Cooten, is an expert in the scene and has provided some tips for those unfamiliar with the realistic medium. Here are his Top 5 things NOT to do in virtual reality:

Virtual Reality6

Winterlands

Don't be intimidated by the big guy... He's only a statue. And no, it's not really a good idea to jump off the cliff, because even though you wont die in real life, you will feel like you just might cover the walls in vomit.

Virtual Reality5

Don't Let Go

Try not to panic. It is just meant to be a fun game. Those spiders aren't real... right? OK... that's enough. I'm done.

Virtual Reality4

Hoverboarding

It sounded cool. It looked cool. But now I really want to throw up and I've forgotten what a 'centre of gravity' feels like...

Virtual Reality3

Converge

Just like in real like, you don't want to be a fool in front of the crowd. Whatever you do, don't say anything stupid. They will hear you and there is nothing worse than a million heads staring at you with eyes that don't blink... So just shut it and enjoy the show.

Unreal Roller Coaster

As much as it feels like a real roller coaster, and you aren't actually riding one, the same rules for real life roller coasters still apply. Keep your hands to yourself. Don't wave they around. Unless you intentionally want to smack your unsuspecting mother in the face and knock her to the ground...
