I am one of two Company Assistants at Brisbane Arts Theatre. In my role, I get the best of the Arts Theatre by acting as a gap filler where needed. On any given day I could be in the office doing admin, assisting in the theatre/behind the bar, helping out in rehearsals and even calling shows.
Why do you do it?
The Arts Theatre is my favourite place. Being here gives you a sense of community, history and this intangible feeling of belonging. Theatre has the capacity to make you feel the depths of your own emotions and getting to assist in making that happen is my purpose.
What do you love about the city you live in?
The way the skyscrapers and river glitter in the sunlight/city lights at any point in the day. It’s pure magic.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
Melbourne to see my favourite comedy group, Aunty Donna. I have family down there so its always good to go down and hang out with my aunty.
What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
My Peter Alexander dressing gown. The best thing to change into after work on a chilly afternoon.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
'Kim Possible', 'Rugrats' and 'The Wild Thornberrys'.
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
I would love to go and live through the '60s in the UK. The music and style are everything that I pine for. Give me everything mod.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us?
Trick question as I’m not the greatest cook. Most likely the risotto I learned to make in back in Home Ec.
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
To love remorselessly and to be as genuine as possible. There’s no point trying to be anyone else when your rough edges are what make you who you are.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
There’s not a lot that people don’t know about me. I’m too much of an open book!
Are you happy with your work/life balance?
Work/life balance doesn’t exist. I live and breathe theatre and am lucky to say that most of my current support network is from the Arts Theatre.
How do you define success?
Success is always a personal thing to define. I measure it by mental growth and the changes that take place every day. I consider myself successful because I have taken opportunities that have changed who I am and have created comfortability in myself that I never thought possible.
What's your spirit animal?
A sloth… I’m always waiting for my next nap!
