Stef Loggie - scenestr of the day

What do you do?
I'm a photography student at CATC and I take photos at local gigs and festivals for Spirefocus. While I'm not studying or taking pictures, I work at a medical alarm emergency response call centre.

Why do you do it?
The photography – because I love it! I've always loved the idea that a photograph can capture so much at a certain time in someone's life. Even as a kid, I loved flicking through mum and dad's photo albums.

What do you love about the city you live in?
I love that Brisbane is big enough to allow for opportunity and career growth, but I also love that it is still quite small. Everyone is pretty laidback and there's a real sense of community when something new opens up. Brisbane seems to be growing so fast in areas like performing arts, music, food and culture, which makes it an exciting time.

Where did you go for your last holiday?
My last overseas holiday was a trip to India and Nepal, but that was too long ago. Yes, I went crazy with my camera. Byron Bay was my last local getaway. I hope to get down there again soon during my study break.

What's your favourite item of clothing?
Oh, there's no #1 favourite, but I do love a good floaty dress. They just make you feel so feminine.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
There were so many but I think perhaps the gameshow ‘Amazing’ takes it. Man, I always wanted to visit that set and run around.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
I'm not too worried about which one and where, but it would be to a Buddy Holly concert.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
Grilled salmon with garlic chilli sauce and sweet potato mash with a side of fresh, crunchy greens.

What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
Not to take yourself to seriously. Growing up, I spent way to much time worrying about what was ‘in’ and what other people thought. Who cares about all of that. Do what you want to do because you like it.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I have the odd day where I'll bop and sing-a-long to Taylor Swift. She's got a good attitude and I would definitely take my nieces to one of her shows.

Are you happy with your work/ life balance?
Juggling time for work/ study/ fun/ life is pretty hard and doesn't leave much time to relax. My work has been very flexible with my move to study. It gets exhausting changing hats through the week, but I like the diversity. I think I'll need that skill moving into photography full time — each day and each client will be unique.

How do you define success?
Happiness. I am one of those people that believe that balance equals happiness, and happiness equals success. It's just a matter of finding that balance and maintaining it. Only worry about what you can control and don't sweat the small stuff.

What's your spirit animal?
I did an online quiz and it said I was a crow. I was a bit disappointed by this. I was hoping for a tiger or something with a bit more sass.
