My name is Natasha York. I’m a cabaret performer and Producer by night and Assistant Accountant by day. As far is Dr. Sugar is concerned I’m the Publicist, box office girl and general lackey for Dr. Sugar... Yes that’s right the man himself!
Why do you do it?
The opportunity to create a new performance space in Melbourne is incredible, and I’m such a fan of the vision of this club. Beside all of that... it beats my day job as an Assistant Accountant!
What do you love about the city you live in?
Melbourne is the best city in the world. I grew up in Brisbane and have found since moving here that the arts scene is taken really seriously and also that there’s a really supportive culture here for anyone trying to achieve something outside the norm.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
I went to Brisbane, catch up with old friends and family. It was also my sisters 21st. But my next holiday will be much more exciting – I’m heading to Edinburgh for the last week of Fringe!
What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
Head scarfs! I’m all about collecting them in every different colour to match my shoes, bag or nail polish – ALSO it makes those days when you can’t be bothered to wash your hair so much easier!
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
'Sailor Moon'! I actually had a crush on Tuxedo Mask until I was at least 13...
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
To the day I first went to the planetarium when I was 14. I love space and everything that it holds in its mystery. The first day when I went there and watched a show about how stars, and how what we’re seeing is from so long ago, blew my mind. Did I mention I LOVE SPACE!?
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us?
Probably chicken wrapped in bacon and stuffed with feta and spinach. Cous cous on the side and a cob of corn. Heaven.
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
Be yourself and be good at it. Everyone is made to be unique, so flaunt it because that way you’ll always win!
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I have a weird toe... well, weird toenail. It kinda looks like a cat claw. I have an instagram all about it actually... Surprisingly it never took off. @instoegramz
Are you happy with your work/life balance?
I am now, since working for Dr. Sugar, I have been able to manage cutting down my hours as the 'Assistant Accountant' and will be done there by October! Anyone who knows me will understand the joy and elation this brings!
How do you define success?
Kicking goals that you set out to kick that were bigger than your last... Even if they’re only a tiny bit bigger, baby steps are better then still crawling!
