I’m a non-profit consultant at O’Keefe & Partners, a campaigner with Oxfam Australia, and an avid volunteer and fundraiser. I love the idea that we all have the power to change the world for the better – by donating money, volunteering or by raising our voices for better laws and policies.
At the moment my personal project is raising money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation through Frocktober. My daughter and I are dressed up in a different frock every day in October to raise money from our friends, family and coworkers – and of course, showcase our respective dress collections.
Why do you do it?
We have so much potential to make the world a better place, it would be a shame not to use it!
What do you love about the city you live in?
Brisbane is a bit like a baby Melbourne. We have great cafés, bars, buildings and culture, but it feels like things are just getting started. And the weather is great when it’s not flooding.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
On a road trip to Melbourne for a wedding. Australia is so weird and wonderful – one week we were running around the snow at Mt Baw Baw, the next week we were sunbaking in Byron Bay.
What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
Dresses, of course! Thinking is hard and dresses are easy – none of this matching your top to your skirt business, you just chuck on a frock and go. I actually made a new year’s resolution to only buy dresses with pockets in 2015. Pockets are the best and represent the pinnacle of dress-wearing comfort.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
Roger Ramjet was pretty great, and that song is catchy as hell.
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
Cretaceous period to see a t-rex! That would be amazing. There would have to be a clause in my time-travel contract that I’m in some pretty sweet invincibility bubble though.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us?
Veggie pad Thai, AKA saucy Thai noodle magic.
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
We judge ourselves by our motivations and others by their actions. I try to remember that when people seem like jerks. I don’t know their back story.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I’m terrible at answering awkward questions...
Are you happy with your work/life balance?
I love my work and love my personal life – the balance is fine, I just want double of both!
How do you define success?
Success is and should be completely personal and ever-changing. Success today will be working 13 hours and pulling off a successful event, success on Sunday will be not checking a single email while I spend time with my daughter.
What's your spirit animal?
I like to think it’s a busy little bee, but sometimes it’s a lumbering, sleepy polar bear, depending on the day.
