Dom Miller - scenestr of the day

What do you do?
I run Bluebeard Music, an all-encompassing music management company and booking agency. I manage Ben Salter, The Gin Club, Texas Tea, The Phoncurves and Magoo and I book Dowse Bar, Southside Tea Room, The Scratch, Leaf and Shucked Lane, as well as being assistant booking agent at The Zoo. I also play music around the traps.

Why do you do it?
Because I played in a band for a long time then we broke up and I wanted to keep being involved in music without playing it (that's now changed) and I saw that Ben Salter was making an album with Gareth Liddiard and that was just something I had to be involved in. I love music and I love the kind of people who want to involve themselves with music on a day-to-day basis so I had no other option.

What do you love about the city you live in?
The weather is amazing — Passport Shredders nearly every day (weather so good you want to shred the passport). The people are just the best though, everyone is laid-back and ready to have a good time. Brisbane is the perfect mix of city and country town. It's small enough that you know everyone but still big enough that you can go around most of the day sometimes and still be a bit anonymous. I love Brisbane. A lot. Plus all the bands and musicians RULE.

Where did you go for your last holiday?
Holiday??? Nah. I guess, maybe Melbourne? But then, that was for work. The UK? That was for work too. I haven't really been on a "holiday" where I didn't have to work in a while. Not sure?

What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
I was given this amazing QLD Bulls t-shirt from when they won the Sheffield Shield for the first time in 1994. Its's fantastic. In fact, you can see it in the latest Teen Sensations video.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
Probably the X-Men cartoon series? A friend of mine then bought the entire series on DVD years later and we spent an entire weekend eating pizza, drinking beer and re-watching it. So good.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
Queen, Wembley Stadium, 12th July, 1986.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us?
Slow cooked lamb shanks.

What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
So f*cking lame but happiness is a journey, not a destination.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I am an over sharer so I don't think there's anything that at least someone doesn't know about me.

Are you happy with your work/life balance?
Yeah, absolutely. I have the most incredible life. Work isn't work to me. Except when I'm putting a grant together, which I am now. BOO.

How do you define success?
I think success is when you are financially stable in your profession but also happy.

What's your spirit animal?
Wombat.
