Saskia Wass - scenestr of the day

What do you do? I am the marketing manager at Sydney-based indie labels Sweat It Out and Central Station Records. I've worked here for over three years and love working alongside amazing homegrown and international talent.

During my time at the label, I've had the opportunity to work across various departments, including PR, A&R and marketing – this has definitely been one of the best perks of working at an indie label. I'm so fortunate to be surrounded by an empowering team.

Why do you do it? After completing a degree in marketing, I wanted to find a job where I can support and promote an industry that I was genuinely passionate about, so as a lover of music and the arts, I decided to pursue a job in music. Additionally, marketing is the perfect way to combine strategy with creativity.

What do you love about the city you live in? I live in Sydney and I love how I am close to some amazing beaches while still living in a city. And the climate is sublime all year round.

Where did you go for your last holiday? I went up to Crescent Head and chilled out by the beach for a few days.

What's your favourite item of clothing? I recently purchased a pair of sandals with velcro straps, and not only do I feel five years old again, but they are super comfortable.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid? This is tough, I loved most shows on ABC Kids and 'Rage' (clearly I wasn't allowed to watch anything outside of ABC).

I especially liked 'Angela Anaconda'; she had so much sass but I can't go past 'Rage'. I always loved copying the dance moves from the video clips; an iconic moment for me as a young child lol.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go? I'd kill to be back on the beach in Italy, with a stomach full of pizza, cheese and wine.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Freshly made pasta with locally sourced prawns. I've spent way too much time in lockdown experimenting with various recipes, but I still can't go past a seafood pasta.

What's the best lesson you've ever learned? My Year 8 maths teacher told me there's no such thing as a dumb question, and every time I doubt my intelligence prior to asking a question, I remember that.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows... I low-key think Maroubra is the best beach in Sydney.

Are you happy with your work/ life balance? It's a little chaotic at the moment while I settle into the new role at Sweat It Out and Central Station Records, but I thrive off being busy.

How do you define success? Being happy in a job I love.

What's your spirit animal? A cat, they are so sassy.
