I work as the Marketing & Events Coordinator at PBS, which is an unreal community radio station here in Melbourne that is dedicated to promoting and nurturing music in all its diversity. PBS has over 80 specialist music programs ranging from soul to garage to country to jazz, and everything in between!
Why do you do it?
As a music obsessive, I feel very at home in an environment like PBS, and of course it inevitably means that I’m constantly surrounded by like-minded people, which is great! I love community radio because with the exception of a few paid staff members, it’s mostly run by volunteers — even our broadcasters do it for the love and because they’re so passionate and knowledgeable about the music that they listen to and play, it really resonates with true music fans.
What do you love about the city you live in?
I just love Melbourne. I moved here nearly six years ago from Perth and I don’t think I could ever leave. There is so much cultural diversity in Melbourne in every facet and strewn so conspicuously around the place that it’s just constantly in your face. The music scene in here is incredible — I love that you can walk into almost any venue all over town and see a great live band, in any kind of genre. It’s just happening all of the time!
Where did you go for your last holiday?
Late last year I went on a road trip through America, starting in LA and finishing up in NYC, driving all through the south. It was incredible! I just loved being immersed in their southern culture.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
Jem And The Holograms!
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us?
To be honest, I’m terrible at cooking and my partner is the real culinary mastermind at my house. So if you were coming around for dinner, I’d probably ask him to cook for you. That, or I’ll get menulog.com.au fired up ready for your arrival!
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
“If you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” — Roald Dahl
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I don’t think there’s a single thing about me that nobody else knows.
Are you happy with your work/life balance?
To be honest, I think it’s kind of all mashed up into one. And I think I’m OK with that!
What's your spirit animal?
Is that like a patronus? I’m totally a crazy cat lady, so I’ll go with that.
