Ruby Eagleton - scenestr of the day

What do you do?
I do lots of things. But mostly I eat, dance and draw.. and eat. I started drawing and experimenting with water colours about a year ago, and things have just progressed from there. I'm currently displaying my pieces in an exhibition in Sydney for the first time, and have a couple of other things in the works. It's so nice to have such a positive reaction to something quite personal.

Why do you do it?
I have no idea honestly.. why not? It's an incredibly meditative and relieving process, and it is fulfilling to put a piece of you somewhere else in the world. I guess I just like all of those feelings!

What do you love about the city you live in?
I recently relocated from Brisbane to Sydney. I love that Sydney is always awake. There seems to be endless opportunities and adventures to be had, and people to meet... and food to eat! But I do miss Brisbane incredibly, I think it's such an under rated and often over looked place.

Where did you go for your last holiday?
I went to Bali last October, to visit friends. We did typically touristy things, in what I hope was a non touristy manner. Lots of eating and preparing my skin for a leathery future, and just incase that wasn't enough damage I got a terrible tattoo. Nothing monumental happened, but I feel like it was a trip that I'll always remember.

What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
Once, while shamelessly rummaging through a skip bin in Auchenflower, I found a t-shirt that had a photo of Freddie Mercury and under neath it said 'Forever Freddie'. It's pretty cool.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
Golly, something really lame. Probably that show 'So Little Time' - you know the one with the Olsen Twins..

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
Last year in August, I spent a day in West End with some very special friends. It was the most beautiful day I've had yet.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
I would strongly advise against this. I can barely boil water for tea. I would ask my friend Molly to make some of her tasty pumpkin soup. She would say no. We would probably end up at Maccas. I'll shout you sauce for your nuggets.

What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
That boys are stupid. Maybe not all of them, but I've grown to really really love being female over the past couple of years, and that's something that I never thought I'd be able to do without a fella telling me how.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
oh.. no.

Are you happy with your work/ life balance?
I'd love more time to draw, or be able to make drawing my main gig.

How do you define success?
Being an optimist.

What's your spirit animal?
Probably something so annoying that cries and eats a lot. Like a puppy... or maybe a piglet.
