Ray Morgan - scenestr of the day

What do you do?
I'm the producer and host of Zed Games, a gaming radio show heard on 4ZZZ in Brisbane and around Australia on the Community Radio Network.

Why do you do it?
As a kid I used to spend an unhealthy amount of time playing and reading about video games. Then as a young man, I spent even more time playing in bands and studying audio production. Now I can justify all of those wasted hours and say that it was just training for my current role.

What do you love about the city you live in?
Brisbane is small enough so that like-minded people can find each other and form communities relatively easily, whether you're an artist, musician, game developer or whatever. I also have to say 4ZZZ is something I love about Brisbane, there's no other radio station that has such amazing diversity and that becomes apparent the minute you leave.

Where did you go for your last holiday?
Chiang Mai, which is northern Thailand. The modern city is founded on the ruins of an ancient one, and there are still remnants of the defensive wall and moat that surrounded the old city. There's a huge mountain overlooking the city and at the top, sometimes obscured by cloud, is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the world.

What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
I've got an 8-year-old pair of jeans that are incredibly comfortable. The buttons are beginning to fall off though so perhaps it's time to look for a new favourite.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
The X-Men animated series.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
I'm fascinated by cosmology, so I'd have to say that I'd go back and witness the beginning of the universe. That's assuming that the time travel deal included a spacesuit and some way that I could survive the explosion. Then I could come back and teach Stephen Hawking a thing or two.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
Roast beef with vegetables and mustard, or if you're a vegetarian I'd probably attempt a vegetable lasagne.

What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
True wisdom comes from knowing that you know nothing.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I had ear problems when I was a toddler and had to have grommets put into my ears.

Are you happy with your work/ life balance?
I get to play video games and call it "work", so you won't find me complaining.

How do you define success?
I find chasing success is like a being a mouse in a mouse wheel. It doesn't matter where you are in life, there's always a milestone in between you and "success". That said, I think that if you are happy and you have good people in your life then you are successful.

What's your spirit animal?
Dog. Is it lame to have a domestic pet as your spirit animal?
