I’m the agent and booker at Mystique Model Management. I'm a model as well as freelance fashion stylist/blogger and bust out a little tune here and there. I also teach dance.
Why do you do it?
I have a huge love for the fashion industry. I really love guiding models in what I believe is a good direction for them and their look. I love blogging because it lets people see me for me, unlike photo shoots, which can be nothing like me. Dancing is a love of mine, it makes me feel alive and free. I feel like those who last in any of these industries are the ones who are pushers. “I’m a pusher, Katy,” which can of course be a bad thing or a good thing… much like these industries.
What do you love about the city you live in?
I think the best thing about Brisbane is the art communities are well rounded. We have an awesome dance scene, music scene, local film scene… fashion! It’s growing and I love it.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
I went on my first overseas trip! I was taken to Bali, which was possibly the best two weeks for me, ever.
What's your favourite item of clothing?
I think it may be my massive, white-fluffy coat. It’s a bit ridiculous, but it can go with anything! Flares, a dress, jeans… endless fashion fun. I also love cool belts and a good pair of skinny jeans.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
I loved (and still love) 'Lano & Woodley'.
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
Tough call. Probably back about a week ago where if I was at GOMA, or Box Vintage – I could have met Noel Fielding. I should probably say something more influential but that could have changed my life, you never know.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
I make a mean lasagne, so I’ve been told. That’s about it, so that will do!
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
Be around people who make you genuinely happy and make your soul feel fulfilled! I’ve learnt over and over again not to hang with people who bring you down, make you feel like you’re less than anyone else. Not cool. Avoid that s#$t.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
Different groups of people around me collectively probably know more about me than I do, honestly. I’m going reveal two little things now! 1. I’ve never been drunk. 2. I’ve been told I’m seen a bit of a rocker, due to my style and my kind of lifestyle (if you saw my house, and my family, you’d get where that’s coming from) but as much as I love lots of rock and roll, grunge, rockabilly, etc (and play that kind of music myself) I love lots of hip hop too… the type you wouldn’t expect at all.
Are you happy with your work/ life balance?
Yeah! Well, I’m always working, always. But I love my work, so more than half the time it doesn’t really click that I’m working.
How do you define success?
My personal definition is feeling fulfilled. It doesn’t matter if you work as a bartender, retail assistant, CEO of a company, gardener, business owner – whatever it is you do, if you are happy doing it, you are successful in my eyes.
What's your spirit animal?
Patsy Stone from Ab Fab. Despite me not really liking alcohol (more so the taste than anything else honestly) I wish I was as crazy and fab as Pats.
