Kim Roberts - scenestr of the day

What do you do?
I keep myself pretty busy. I’ve just been appointed as General Manager of Music SA and will start in July, but am currently working as Head of Training, organising, writing and teaching Music SA’s training programmes. I’m also in two bands and have a show on community radio.

Why do you do it?
Simply because I adore music. It enriches our lives enormously and we would be lost without it. I absolutely love that I get to share my passion for music every day and support others in their music career through sharing knowledge and developing programmes to support the community.

What do you love about the city you live in?
There’s a lot of things to love about Adelaide. It’s so liveable. We also have a thriving and diverse live music scene with a great sense of community.

Where did you go for your last holiday?
My most recent holiday was New Zealand. It’s an incredibly beautiful country and I would love to spend more time there. I’m a bit of a nerd, so I also really loved visiting Hobbiton and the Weta Workshop.

What’s your favourite item of clothing?
Probably my pastel yellow dress with purple flowers. I love it for a few reasons. I bought it at a market in Brisbane while attending my first BIGSOUND conference a few years back, so it reminds me of a fun time. It’s also very comfortable, has pockets (a big win), is handmade and very cheery. I think I’ll wear it every summer until it disintegrates.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
Ooooh this is a tough one. I had a lot of favourites, but probably 'Astro Boy'. I thought he was really cool and the environmental and social justice themes resonated with me. I also liked 'Inspector Gadget' and used to pretend I was Penny when playing, so tech seems to be a common thread too.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
There are way too many options! Can I borrow the TARDIS for a little while?

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?

Probably my veggie chili con carne. Simple and tasty.

What’s the best lesson you’ve ever learned?
I didn’t know how to get into the music industry when I started. Really, it’s just a matter of starting. Going to shows, talking to people, building your network, trying different roles.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I don’t like salt and vinegar chips. No idea why, because I love everything else potato.

How do you define success?
Everyone has such a different opinion on this, but to me it’s being happy and content. Fame, wealth or fancy things aren’t a defining factor for me. But I do get satisfaction out of achieving goals. It’s great when your hard work pays off.
