I’ve been doing a radio show called Tips For Teens on Brisbane’s 4ZZZFM for almost a year now. That takes up only a fraction of my time, though, 'cause I also play and tour in a few bands (Sewers, Kitchen’s Floor, Per Purpose, Greg Boring) and when I’m not gigging or putting together records I’m also making music videos and documenting Brisbane’s underground live music scene here.
Why do you do it?
I have a short attention span so I need to keep myself involved in a lot of different projects otherwise I get really restless. There’s a lot of great music being made in Brisbane and I just try to share that through my Vimeo page.
What do you love about the city you live in?
Brisbane has a lot of hills and a lot of bridges and the main thing you can do on any of them is look at things which may not seem all that interesting, but there are some fantastic views around the city. Special mention goes to Stefan’s Sky Needle.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
I tour regularly with bands and it’s not something I’d consider a holiday — it’s not a particularly comfortable way to see the country/world. I’m hoping to get down to Tasmania again this spring. Australia’s goatee is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
My Duck Bay 100% Nylon hunting jacket; nothing keeps me warm and dry like it does. I actually bought a second after my first jacket was lost. I was using it as some kind of esky.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
Cartoon Connection had a great line-up of shows right at the start of the '90s anime boom. I went to a taping of the show and I had to get up really early. Jamie Dunn/Agro was the king of radio back then - bring back the Black Thunders!
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
I’d go back and see Broadcast play the Hi-Fi in 2011. That was the greatest gig I’ve ever seen and I’d never really listened to Broadcast before that show. I was completely blown away by how much a duo could accomplish. RIP Trish.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us?
I’d buy some Cheesesteaks from PJ’s Steaks in West End and I would pass it off as my own cooking.
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
Always make sure that the hose from the washing machine is directed into an appropriate environment and not all over my house.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I’m a massive fan of the show Hardcore Pawn.
Are you happy with your work/life balance?
I don’t really see the things I do as ‘work’ necessarily, and in that regard I guess I’m always working, which is bad. So I guess I have a really bad work/life balance in actuality.
How do you define success?
I wish my numberplate was ‘succes’ or ‘sucess’.
What's your spirit animal?
The Weasel.
