Jade Goulding – scenestr of the day

Jade Goulding
What do you do?
So many things! I am an interior stylist and artist running a business called New Henry Design, but I also have a neglected food-ish blog called The Folksy Life and I am currently working on another publication type project, as well as running a home with a craft beer brewing husband and two gorgeous little girls.

Why do you do it?
I love to help people create a functional and beautiful home space, I love to showcase the products that people put so much love and effort into and because I love to work creatively. I want flexibility in my lifestyle, and I want to build business that supports my family and creates opportunities for others.

What do you love about the city you live in?
Brisbane is just coming into its own, there are amazing creative and entrepreneurial people doing great things in many industries, and it is sunny most of the year!

Where did you go for your last holiday?
Mooloolaba. Beach. Sunshine. Ice-cream and my husband and kids. Happy days.

What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
This week it is a gorgeous pair of pink Witchery shorts I scored at the Salvos for $6. I love nothing more than a perfect fitting quality op shop find. It makes my heart happy.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
'Jem And The Holograms'. Rock star, fashion, philanthropic entrepreneur, she is still my hero.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
I'd go hang out in New York with Andy Warhol in the heyday of The Factory.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us?
Nachos, with cheese, pickled jalepenos, sour cream and my killer home made guacamole, served up with a hand-crafted beer by my husband (Brewtal Brewers. Shameless plug).

What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
You have the choices and control over your life. Stuff happens, but you choose your reaction to it. And that you should love your enemies. People spend all this time talking about love and peace for the world, but hold grudges and hatred in their hearts. Truly loving is difficult. It's easy to love people who are nice to you. But loving people who've hurt you, that's where the real power of freedom is.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
One time I accidentally ran through some wet concrete at my primary school, (Mangatangi, NZ, for those following at home) and my footprints were there forever, and nobody knew who did it. It was me guys. I'm sorry. It was me.

Are you happy with your work/life balance?
I think so. I try to be present whatever my task or activity is, and am learning to relax and enjoy each day as it comes without worry for yesterday or concern for tomorrow. Not working at night is hard... exhibit A as I fill in these questions.

How do you define success?
Creating quality work, being paid well for it, enabling other people to do things they love, and having an abundance of resources to enjoy our own life and to overflow into other people's lives.

What's your spirit animal?
I don't know! Something beautiful and wild. Maybe a wolf.
