I am the Admin Officer at West Australian Music, or WAM as we're better known. Some of the cooler parts of my job include assisting staff with our major events like WAMFest and creating content for our website and social media. You can also catch me at gigs on the door or selling merch – anything music-related that I can get involved with.
Why do you do it?
Music has been my biggest passion since childhood, but it took me ages to realise that I could even have a career in the industry without being a musician. When I got the job at WAM, it really consolidated for me that this is the only thing I want to do. Nothing makes me happier than being able to help local artists achieve great things.
What do you love about the city you live in?
Although sometimes I yearn for the bustle and grandeur of Sydney, you just can't beat the community we have here in Perth. Being so isolated definitely creates a supportive environment as we're all in the same boat. If one of us wins, we're all winning. Plus the sunsets are second to none.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
I haven't been on a big holiday in a while, but I was lucky enough to have a little camping getaway recently in Jurien Bay, a few hours north of Perth. It's the perfect little town to do absolutely nothing but relax.
What's your favourite item of clothing?
I recently bought a killer pair of pants for our WAMAwards that are easily now my favourite thing in my wardrobe. They're green, satin, wide-legged and pinstriped – oozing Harry Styles vibes!
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
Growing up in England I was obsessed with a show called 'Art Attack'. Apparently there's a theory that the host, Neil Buchanan, is Banksy! I was also raised on 'Friends', so that's always a very nostalgic show for me.
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
I would love to have experienced just one night at Studio 54 in its glory days! That or Victoria Park, April 30 1978 to see The Clash headline the Rock Against Racism concert.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
MEXICAN! I may be an average chef, but the one thing I can do well is a mean Mexican feast complete with an array of tequila-based cocktails. I even have a killer playlist to bring the whole experience together.
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
You should surround yourself with people who would shout your name in a room full of opportunities. And also never go out of style by never being in style.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows?
That's a toughie. . . There was a good six-month period where I couldn't get ready for the day without playing 'Rock The Casbah' at least once – like a ritual!
Are you happy with your work/ life balance?
I definitely haven't mastered it yet, as I am sure is the case with a lot of music workers but I'm over the moon to be doing what I'm doing. I just need to bring a bit of that life component back.
How do you define success?
I've never really had a good definition of it, but when you're recognised for your passion that's a pretty successful feeling. My heart skips a beat any time I'm introduced to someone and they lead with what I do and why I love my job so much. I think overall if you're passionate about what you do, the accolades really don't mean anything.
What's your spirit animal?
I feel like ducks and I are on the same level.
