What do you do?
Be gravitationally attached to earth. But for income, I work special ed and the music industry.
Why do you do it?
Because it is Newton’s law of gravity, why else? Ha, ha, ha, lolz. It's a way of balance. I have to take from this world to survive, so I must give back to receive. If I have to wake up and do something in this world, I feel I must give so that I can participate in the making of it.
What do you love about the city you live in?
Brisbane lets everyone in. There seems to always be a vibe that, hey, we see you and that's ok. The community aspects that lead to a big, awesome melting pot of all that it means to be.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
What is a holiday? The last place I tried to escape (other than my head) was my Auntie and Uncle’s farm out the back of Byron.
What's your favourite item of clothing?
Hats, because there is always one for every occasion so to speak. That, and shoes.
I can never wear the same two colour or pair of shoes, I have to get two pairs of the same shoe and swap them. They have to be the same shoe and then wear them (always opposites) according to how I am processing for that day.
I also have to then match the opposite sock to that colour shoe. It's all because how lighter/ darker colours trigger brain function and pathways in the brain... bla bla bla... it's an awesome introspective reflection tool.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
It wasn't a show, but the original 'Dark Crystal' movie is my number one watched thing, still to this day. As for a show, man, any cartoon or anime I guess, I just loved them all. The quality/ style and drawing difference in them, I was transfixed and fascinated by the medium.
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
Medieval, druid and witch times. Slay a dragon, drink some meed and generally search for adventure while getting to run amuck in the local tavern playing music with all the other philosophical degenerates. Ohh, back in time… ummmm…
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
Mmmm, I'm really great at breakfast food and make poached eggs traditional style, but if it was dinner, my go-to is either a bolognese that takes about three hours (generally more) or a chicken and avo plus asparagus white wine sauce over fettuccine.
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
Nothing lasts forever, even cold, November rain? To make an omelette, you first must raise a chicken before you can crack an egg? I guess the lesson in that is vulnerability, that it is ok to ask for help.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I still (after hearing that rhyme as a kid) avoid stepping on cracks when I walk, and every time I avoid one I must say the line. I have grown to adapt it into my current circumstances that I am processing and relate it to them. Man, it must look weird when I walk down the street, thanks.
Are you happy with your work/ life balance?
I reckon that has started to work out so-to-speak. I have taken the steps recently to make that happen, so I can figure how this thing called work holds value while still valuing myself.
How do you define success?
Recognising the self in relation to where you are ok with who you are, so you can live the best version of you.
What's your spirit animal?
I guess if I have to go with one, currently I'd say the Kookaburra, for when I laugh I laugh loud and from what I've been taught they represent family, and the ancestral answers you seek are in their laughing song upon the morning and night… But god damn I love a crow.
