Georgia Niederer - scenestr of the day

What do you do? I'm incredibly lucky to call myself a music publicist at the boutique Australian music PR agency Beehive PR. I work with such a lovely, tight-knit team and led by the amazing Sammie Walsh.

Why do you do it? Once I realised I could be involved in the music industry, but not as a musician, I was sold. I love the fast-paced, creative work I get to do – all behind the scenes. I'm constantly learning from everyone I meet and it's been such an amazing period of growth for me both as a person and as a professional.

What do you love about the city you live in? I moved to Canberra about five years ago for university and absolutely loved it. The music community in Canberra was what inspired me to pursue this career – it's so tight-knit and there's so much talent. Beyond that, there's so many beautiful hikes with gorgeous wildlife.

Where did you go for your last holiday? January-March 2020. I was living overseas in Maastricht (Netherlands) for a semester abroad and was caught at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. I had to cancel the remaining four months, come back home and start again – definitely threw a spanner in the works.

What's your favourite item of clothing? I am a big fan of socks, any and all. I just love them.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid? Probably 'The Simpsons', there's so many iconic one-liners.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go? I would travel back to June 2016 at Lake Iseo, Italy. My most favourite installation artwork, Christo and Jeanne-Claude's orange 'Floating Piers'. I often dream of visiting and walking across those gorgeous orange piers.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? I've just set up a barbeque on the deck, so we would definitely be firing that bad boy up.

What's the best lesson you've ever learned? If you enjoy something, stick with it. You don't have to be amazing from the get-go to pursue something. You'll learn as you go. Just trust that things take time, all you need is a willingness to try.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows... I have five middle names, one of them Sunshine.

Are you happy with your work/ life balance? Now that I'm working with Beehive as a music publicist, a big YES. I am grateful that I get to call what I do 'work'. I only became happy with my work/ life balance once I was able to do something creative in my work.

How do you define success? I think being able to recognise and appreciate the little things in life. It's definitely a process and takes a while to learn, but once you can recognise and be grateful for the little things, every day becomes a good day. And if you can find the beauty in every day, you'll be successful.
