I am a small business owner (Sassy Red PR), arts publicist, professional actor, and cat wrangler.
Why do you do it?
Wrangle cats? I’m self-sabotaging.
What do you love about the city you live in?
Melbourne is just a place lousy with culture, opportunity, and a tenacity of spirit. I think after 2020 and what the state went through, it’s a more cohesive place and we just get sh.t done. Work hard, play hard. It’s obviously not as vibrant at the moment as it normally would be as we find the new normal, but for the most I just think of Melbourne as dynamic and fresh. It’s a tonic.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
Ocean Grove in Victoria. It’s a gateway to many other great regional towns and places.
What’s your favourite item of clothing?
At the moment? A face mask. 100 per cent.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
‘Baywatch’. I’m still not over Jill getting chomped by a shark and dying. I’ll never move past it.
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
The last Christmas I had with my entire immediate family in Brisbane. Christmas 2019. Pre-COVID. I haven’t seen some of them since then face to face. It’s hard to be separated for that long. I’m sure a similar story for many Australians.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
That’s a really hard question, because I love to cook. Love it. One of the highlights of the 2020 VIC lockdown (seems odd there can be highlights to that but yes) was having my bubble buddy over every Sunday and cooking up elaborate feasts for us. If I had to put together a vegan winter menu for the purpose of this question, then I suppose it would look a little something like this: Mushroom and leek pie with balsamic vinegar/maple syrup roasted brussels sprouts, cauliflower mash and lemon tossed broccolini. And an upside-down pear pudding with coconut cream for dessert. I don’t f… around.
What’s the best lesson you’ve ever learned?
Motivation does not create action, action creates motivation.
Are you happy with your work/life balance?
Mostly. It’s on me but I do need to allocate more time for my own creative practice and writing. I spend a lot of time on others as an arts publicist, but not so much on my own, which I need to rectify.
How do you define success?
Happiness. Wherever you find happiness and contentment in career and life – that’s success in my books.
What’s your spirit animal?
Tea Leoni.
