Ed Acheson - scenestr of the day

What do you do? I run Wild Gift PR, working predominantly in the PR side of things, offering campaigns for single, EP and album releases. I sometimes offer management services to emerging artists.

Why do you do it? I love music, and I love working with new artists that have an exciting sound with something to say. There's nothing more rewarding than helping spread the word of a performer who deserves to have their music heard by as many people as possible.

What do you love about the city you live in? Well, up until last year I was living in Melbourne (I now live in Blackwood, just about an hour out). But Melbourne is still my hub.

What can you say about Melbourne that hasn't already been said? I think for me, the thing that makes Melbourne great is that despite its size, it still has such a strong feeling of community, especially within the world of music. The venues, the radio stations, the artists, everything is so well connected, and everyone is so supportive. It really is quite unique.

Where did you go for your last holiday? Last holiday was to New Zealand, which was great. But eyes are firmly set on the next adventure, which is a month in Spain this June. Bring it on!

What's your favourite item of clothing? I have an old Sonic Youth tee that I bought in 2011. It's seen better days, but it's also seen me through some good times.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid? It would have to be 'The Simpsons'. That's a boring answer I know, but you just can't beat it.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go? I'd go to LA circa 1980. Walk around the streets and take in the scene of the west-coast punk boom.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? I put together a pretty mean Mexican feast.

What's the best lesson you've ever learned? In the context of what I do, it would have to be a lesson I learned from my first PR boss in London; it always has to be about the music. If you're doing it to make money, or to meet famous people, or because you think it'll be easy, it's not going to work. Love of music and the artists you're working with always has to be at the heart of why you're doing it.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows... I don't know if scenestr has access to that kind of information.

Are you happy with your work/ life balance? I've just recently had a baby, and so finding that balance has been trickier than ever. But yes, I feel like I've got a good thing going.

How do you define success? Just do what makes you happy and look after your mental and physical health. That goes for all aspects of your life: career, family, hobbies; just do what is right for you, don't think about what others might want you to do, and as long as you're not impeding on anyone else, the happiness that comes from those choices, is success.

What's your spirit animal? Up for debate, I say lion, others have said turtle.
