Damien Brown - scenestr of the day

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.
What do you do? I own an independent record store in Newstead, Brisbane, called Spin And Groove Records.

Why do you do it? Owning a record store has been a dream of mine since I was a teenager, and I enjoy spreading the love of music and vinyl records.

What do you love about the city you live in? Brisbane has everything you could want without the size of Sydney or the weather of Melbourne. The weather, the music scene, the coast line (Sunshine Coast/ Goldy), the rainforests, regional towns, food, nightlife, and the PEOPLE!

Where did you go for your last holiday? Burleigh Heads.

What's your favourite item of clothing? Denim jacket – suits every occasion, looks good, feels good.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid? 'The Wonder Years' – I could relate to Kevin Arnold's awkwardness.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go? The 1960s – it looked like a fun time.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? A homemade meat pie.

What's the best lesson you've ever learned? It's up to you to make you happy.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows... Some people do know this, but I've never eaten an oyster, and never will!

Are you happy with your work/ life balance? Very close to 100 per cent.

How do you define success? Taking those risks that make your dreams come true, and seeing them through.

What's your spirit animal? Probably a cat, because I give attention when it suits me, I'm nocturnal and love to sleep.
