I am a ceramicist. I make things out of clay.
Why do you do it?
Everyone has to do something, right? You grow up, leave school, and then your expected to DO something. I was actually looking to become a jeweller, so I visited all the jewellers in Brisbane asking for a job, no takers. But my family, (that is my Mum and her father and my sister) were potters, so they got me to help out in the family business while I was sending my resume to every jeweller I could find. Anyway, turns out I had a knack for pottery and I actually really enjoyed it.
What do you love about the city you live in?
My family.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
My favourite place is my home. I’ve created my own, other-world here, and this is where I choose to holiday. I also like to visit the beach occasionally, but then come home at the end of the day.
What's your favourite item of clothing?
I am a lazy dresser, all my clothes are black. I never have to think what goes together… everything is black. Love my black leg pants – comfortable and flattering.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
When I was young, TV in our house hold was rationed to one hour per day. I have six siblings, so I watched what the bossiest amongst us wanted to watch, and mostly that was ‘Happy Days’ (a ‘50s sitcom where the main character was an arsehole manwhore disguised as a loveable rebel).
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
I am fascinated by the fact that there are a lot of ancient artefacts that might possibly tell a different story to the one found in our history books. I would love to go back 100,000 years and see if there was civilisation then, or if it is all a bunch of hooey.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
I really don’t like to cook; let’s go down the road to my favourite Japanese restaurant at the moment, Moga.
What's the best lesson you've ever learned? Oh God, hard question. I learn lessons the hard way, and then hardly ever again. A good one is to be kind to yourself.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I believe in the supernatural world, maybe.
Are you happy with your work/ life balance?
Most of the time I am good at work/ life balance, but then I do find it hard to say ‘no’ when someone asks me to do something.
How do you define success?
Success is happiness. No, success is contentment with moments of joy.
What's your spirit animal?
Snow leopard.
