I work as a publicist in the music industry at an agency in Sydney called Thinking Loud. We focus on the more niche, electronic market with acts like Flight Facilities, Touch Sensitive, Basenji etc. as well as Red Bull Music Academy, Boiler Room, OutsideIn Festival – the list continues.
Why do you do it?
Cliche as it sounds, I basically love the good music coming out of down under at the moment (I'm originally from The Netherlands) and like to think of myself as a supporter of the Australian music scene.
What do you love about the city you live in?
I live in Sydney's inner west and the best thing about this place – and the good thing about working in the music industry here – is that it's such a small world. Everyone knows each other and everybody is in this creative, little bubble together. The parties are pretty fun too ;)
Where did you go for your last holiday?
Byron Bay. My most visited place since I moved to Australia (at least 12 times in three years).
What's your favourite item of clothing?
I have many favourite items, like my blue 'mermaid dress' and my purple Arnhem kimono. But my absolute favourite would have to be my white, fluffy jacket – it has a life of its own. It's a Sydney, party icon.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
'Totally Spies'. Not sure if you had this in Australia. It's basically a cartoon version of 'Charlie's Angels'.
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
Probably ancient Rome to put my high school Latin to the test and to watch the Colosseum in action.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
You better come for brunch because smashed avo and poached egg is all I can cook.
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
If you can't do anything about it, don't worry about it.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I really love dogs. But that might not be a secret... Check out @DailyPuppy + @MarnieTheDog and @BasilSausage (the unofficial Flight Facilities mascot) on Insta.
Are you happy with your work/ life balance?
I think being in PR in general is a pretty full-on job, no matter what industry you're in. But the good definitely outweighs the bad.
How do you define success?
Happiness!
What's your spirit animal?
I always thought it would be a wolf, but according to an online, spirit-animal test I am a butterfly – quite the contrast: 'one of the most emblematic totem animals symbolising personal transformation'.
