I am the Artistic Director of Markwell Presents. I work predominantly with young people to create new and engaging theatre. I am a writer, director, artist in residence, camera operator and video editor. [Brad will also appear at the Short + Sweet Short Play Festival in 2013.]
Why do you do it?
I enjoy working creatively with young people and the challenge and diversity of working within the creative industries.
What do you love about the city you work in?
I love the people, the cultural community and the fact that there are so many wonderful places to visit within a relatively short distance of Brisbane.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
Holidays? Very seldom do I have these being self employed, but my last was a short visit to Caloundra with my wife and two girls.
What’s your favourite item of clothing? Why?
My favourite item of clothing is probably my Doc Martens boots… extremely comfortable and good for all environments.
What was your favourite TV show as a kid?
Mmmm, The Wonder Years. I think every kid growing up can probably relate to that show.
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
Probably to see Hamlet performed at the Globe… that would be something.
If we were coming over, what would you cook for us?
I do love to cook so it’d either be some kind of gourmet BBQ meal, or my home-made pizzas (I make my own bases and pizza sauce).
What’s the best lesson you’ve ever learned?
Patience is a virtue… however I’m still learning this.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows…
I am obsessed with mowing my lawn.
Are you happy with your work/life balance?
I love my job but it is extremely consuming and I would love to spend more time with my kids who are only little… I imagine most people feel this way.
How do you define success?
Achieving personal and professional goals and being respected by the people I work with… being a good dad and husband.
What’s your spirit animal?
Possibly a cat… I like to be with people, but am pretty happy on my own too.
