Brad Hutchins – scenestr of the day

What do you do?
Apparently I get to call myself ‘a writer’ after having my first book ‘Game, Set, Cash!’ published by Black Inc books. Stoked.

I used to work on the world tennis circuit as a courtsider (a person who relays live scores from the matches to gamblers from the to beat the time delays) and enjoyed a non-stop travel schedule around the world with all expenses paid. It resulted in a lifetime ban from Wimbledon and a few other crazy stories but my mates and I had a blast and I still miss that lifestyle today.

Why do you do it?
I’m a logophile (lover of words… a.k.a nerd?!) You’ve got to be an avid reader to be a good writer so I dedicate a lot of time to both.

What do you love about the city you live in?
Waves. I live on the Gold Coast so I’m lucky enough to squeeze in two surfs a day with Brissy and Byron just a stones-throw either way. Not to mention an epic crew of family and friends all around.

Where did you go for your last holiday?
Indonesia: six weeks in Bali, Lombok and Sumbawa went down a treat.

What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
Boardshorts: I wear them Every. Single. Day.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
'Ninja Turtles' (apologies to my sis for always wanting to re-enact fight scenes, where she was regularly cast as an evil foot soldier and beaten up).

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
I’m sure the world would have benefitted from somebody feeding Hitler a cyanide sandwich circa 1939… But it’s tough to pass up a chance to see Jimi shred at Woodstock.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us?
Oh you’re helping don’t you worry! We’re in for a bit of home-made sushi where everyone gets involved. That way you can’t complain about my cooking!

What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
*see final question

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I’m not related to Adam Levine.

Are you happy with your work/life balance?
Oh yeah. It’s unbalanced in a great way. I’ve had a good run over the past few years. Reality will kick in one of these days but I’ll try my best to avoid it in the meantime!

How do you define success?
Happiness. If your friends and family are healthy and happy, and you’re fortunate or driven enough to end up doing something you love then you’re set.

What's your spirit animal?
www.spiritanimal.info says Bear… I’d have gone with Wolverine but guess that’s what I get for trusting a dodgy online quiz! Tsk, tsk. *Lesson learnt.
